The Editors Post

The Editors Post Blog

The Editors Post came to be from reading the news papers everyday. Seeing what people had to say about any given topic to editors at bay area news papers. Obviously there is limited space on the editors page in a news paper. So topics and responses would have some limits. The internet gives way to a lot more people at the same time.

You may have noticed that we do not have up load links for people to post directly here. That is to control some of the content and not have any abuse issues. If you have any topics you want discussed email us at editor@theeditorspost.com

Long time incumbents

I went looking for a list of incumbents because people keep saying "throw the bums out". Well here is a list of incumbents that I found through wikipedia. But I found some other information that needs to be brought to the front row. Legislation was introduced in June 2007 that apparently has been ignored again.
We need to start a third party call it the "America" party. Are you Republican or Democrat? I am an American first.

http://www.house.gov/list/press/ca50_bilbray/reformbill.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_United_States_Senators
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_members_of_the_United_States_Congress_by_longevity_of_service

Look at the length of time a lot of these people have been in office and have done nothing for years at $174,000.00 each and every year. Start a third party and take the money and do nothing for it.

Roman Polanski or Mel Gibson

Roman Polanski or Mel Gibson which one is worse? Pedophile or Racist which is worse?
I think the Pedophile is worse because if you do not stop them they continue to prey on kids. The Racist just continues to make an ass out of himself in public until he paints himself into a corner and eventually fades away.
But what I find even more disturbing is the people coming out to defend a convicted child molester that has been on the run for 33 years. Mel Gibson is wrong for everything he has done for the last year or so. But no one is coming to his aid. So think it is safe to say that you can't talk bad about jews in Hollywood but you can have sex with 13 year old girls confess to it and go on the run for 33 years.

Informal Poll

With the amount of emotion connected with the issue of immigration, it seems every poll that come out has a different result. But one thing is certainly clear. People are very unhappy at the politicians unwillingness to act at any level.
So I wanted to conduct a poll of my own. It is informal, non-scientific and only reflects the opinion of the participants. You can leave a comment if you like, but please vote like or dislike at the end.

If you think that the immigration laws are fine the way they are and just need to be enforced. Vote, LIKE.

If you think that the immigration laws are flawed and must be reformed now. Vote, DISLIKE.

Again this is an informal, non-scientific poll. Thank you for your time.

Better to incarcerate than educate

After looking at my category tags, I didn't know if I should list this under Politics, Business or Stupid Lawsuits. But I am going to cut rite to the chase and make a link to a Bay Area News Group article from the Contra Costa Times.
http://www.contracostatimes.com/top-stories/ci_15499576?nclick_check=1 .
A lawsuit has been filed against the State of California that is unconstitutional to under fund public education as drastically as the state is currently. Once again the State of California can not reach a budget agreement. But one thing the legislature seems to always agree upon. Cut EDUCATION before the department of corrections.
One simply question that I have had for a long time. What can be done to make people not want to go to jail? As is now, it is a badge of honor to have spent time in prison. At a time when budgets are tight everywhere it is very easy to swing at the "low hanging fruit". That "fruit" seems to be the poor , disenfranchised and children.
In the spirit of " cruel and unusual punishment". What is cruel about getting rid of dumb bells for books. Instead of feeding inmates news through a television set, make them read a news paper. If an inmate can not read or write when they enter the prison system then every opportunity should be afforded them before they leave.
If an inmate chooses not to participate, leave them in there cell for 23 hours a day. The days of sitting out in the yard lifting weights and honning your gang skills should be gone. Prison should be a learning experience not a way of life. I bet you if you asked inmates the age old question "would you like to see your kids have a better life than you did" the answer would be 100% yes.

Education starts before kindergarten and should take precedents over the prison system.

Free agent frenzie

Day one of the free agency was interesting. After the Sharks declined to offer Nabby a contract, they went out and signed Niittymaki from Tampa Bay.
No more Malhotra, he is off to Vancouver. Which is good for him. I don't know what he was being paid last year as a Shark. He is going to make 7.5 million over 3 years. 2.5 million a year is not bad money. I hope does well in Vancouver, sad to see him go.

After the final

Yeah, it's been a while. I've been depressed after the Sharks got knocked out. But here we go.
The sharks added seven players in this years draft.
1. Charlie Coyle (28 overall)
2. Max Gaede (88 overall)
3. Cody Ferriero (127 overall)
4. Freddie Hamilton (129 overall)
5. Isaac MacLeod  (136 overall)
6. Konrad Abeltshauser (163 overall)
7. Lee Moffie (188 overall)
Here is a link to the Sharks page for all the stats http://sharks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=532940
The Sharks added a number of of forwards and defensemen but no goalies. I know the Sharks have been strong in the goalie department for years in the minors. I would think they would take a least one out of seven picks.

Deaths a tragedy

The two recent deaths at the border are tragedies that could have been prevented. And the blame lays clearly at the feet of the U.S. and Mexican governments. Neither side is doing enough to stop the flow of people, drugs or guns across OUR border. Both sides are to blame.
It is a shame that after all these years that people have been talking about the same problems, that when action is taken, the finger pointing begins. "It's your fault", NO, "it's your fault". Like two little kids. It is time to take control of the border from both sides. It is bad enough when your governments two party's can't get anything done. But, when two governments can't? What's up with that?
It is time to stop the finger pointing and political posturing and stop the deaths on BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER.

Hockey Finals

Well now that the San Jose Sharks are out of the playoffs and the teams that are in the finals decided, WHO ARE YOU GOING TO ROOT FOR? It seemed sort of strange not to have any hockey going on for the past couple of days after the conference finals were done. But it gives you a little time to take a deep breath and decide who you want to win the Stanley Cup.
For me it is an easy call, Chicago. Not because I am a fan of the western conference over the eastern conference. If Montreal was in the finals I would be rooting for them.   I HATE COMCAST and everything they own and operate. That includes VERSUS, soon to be NBC and the Philadelphia Flyers. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the players or the team (with the exception of Pronger). I hate their owners. So piss on Comcast, piss on Versus, piss on NBC and piss on the Flyers.    GO CHICAGO!!!!!!

Immigration Reform?

Boy after reading all the posts in regard to the visit from President Calderon and Obamas dismissal of the AMERICAN peoples wants, it's hard to believe that the November election won't be volatile. People are getting pissed at politicians, as well they should. For many years people have asked congress to address the issue of unlawful immigration. It's pretty bad when a state has to pass a copy of federal law, because of the unwillingness of more than 500 law maker to uphold their sworn duty to protect the UNITED STATES.
People want the boarders secured for many reasons. But the main reason is the fact that, the law is the law. If your first act in coming to the UNITED STATES is to ignore OUR laws. It's hard to have sympathy for you. I am not one of these people that think most of the people coming across the boarder are criminals, I'm sure there are some. But the fact is that most people are hard working individuals that want to make a better life for themselves. Which is understandable. But at what cost to yourself or the UNITED STATES?
I have lots of Latino friends, customers and employees. Let me tell you a couple of stories.
A friend of mine working out of a day laborer center was approached be a contractor for a 3 day job needing 3 people. After leaving the labor center the contractor tells them what he was going to pay them and that "if any of you gets hurt on the job, I am going to drop you off around the corner from Kaiser Hospital, and I have never seen before in my life". Chris tells the contractor He is legal and wants to be payed "above the table". the contractor kicked him out of the truck and made him walk back, because that would cost him to much. Chris was making $18.00 an hour, the contractor wanted to pay 7.50.
I had young man come in to my repair shop and ask if I were hiring. I asked him if he had a social security card, he said no. Curious, I asked why he didn't want to work at the shop he was currently at. He was only being paid $8.00 an hour and tired of working three jobs and weekends. Which is understandable.
Now do you see a trend happening here? People coming to the UNITED STATES and working for minimum wage or less. Which I consider to be "slave labor". Not because $8.00 an hour is slave labor. Because those same jobs pay legal workers double and the reason why, is that illegal workers can't  can't go to the state labor board, IRS or any other government agency to report abuse. What do you think would happen to me if I treated one of my employees like that? First they quit, then I get sued.
That second example of a bad employer, the employer is a Columbian and the employee is Guatemalan. That"s not an American abusing a Mexican. That is LATINO ABUSING LATINO! And I'm not talking about jobs "Americans won't do". I'm talking about construction and automotive repair. Good paying jobs, and all I want is a level playing field. It's hard for me to compete as an employer paying $25.00 an hour, versus someone paying $8.00 and no payroll taxes, social security, medicare or unemployment taxes. So, if you add the taxes in, people are making $30.00 plus an hour. You can't live in the San Fransisco bay area on $8.00 an hour.
So when I ask "at what cost to yourself or the UNITED STATES". Do you like working 60 plus hours a week at 3 jobs or would you prefer an honest days pay for honest days work? Do you think that watering down the labor pool with cheap "slave" labor is OK? Or will it bring down the quality of life for millions of people in AMERICA?
